Laune Rangers B: 3-10, Gneeveguilla B 5-15
An under-strength Laune Rangers hosted Gneeveguilla on Friday evening last in phase 2 of the Credit Union Senior Football League, Division 5. It was Gneeveguilla who went home with the spoils, with the old adage “goals win games” ringing true at a sun-soaked J.P. O’Sullivan Park.
Gneeveguilla built up an early lead, leading 1-04 to 0-03 with 13 minutes of the opening half played. Laune Rangers’ points coming from Mike F. Russell, Darragh O’Grady & Gabriel Griffin. In the 14th minute, Adam Owens worked hard to keep possession of the ball and sent it towards the goals. Darragh O’Grady, who was running in, got himself under the dropping ball and tipped it into the back of the Gneeveguilla net. This closed the visitor’s lead to the minimum. Two late Gneeveguilla goals towards the end of the half saw them extend their lead considerably and left the score at the half-time whistle, Laune Rangers 1-05 to Gneeveguilla 3-07. Gneeveguilla fired home two further goals in the second half to kill the game as a contest. Despite this, Laune Rangers continued to battle hard and notched up further scores from Gabriel Griffin (0-2), Cian O’Shea (1-2), Adam Owens (1-0) and Mikey O’Donnell (0-1).
