Laune Rangers 2-24, Rathmore 3-14
Laune Rangers progressed to the County Minor Shield Semi Final with victory over Rathmore on Saturday eveining. A hugely entertaining and high scoring game at JP O’Sullivan Park saw Laune Rangers come out on top.
Early Oran O’Sullivan & Bryan McKenna points were cancelled out by the opposition, but once Adam O’Neill pointed an excellent free in the fifth minute, the home team held on to the lead for the remainder of the game.
Oran O’Sullivan & Jamie Flynn added points before Rathmore replied with a couple, but Adam O’Neill (2) and Colm Evans restored the three point lead – Laune Rangers ahead by 0-9 to 0-4 with fifteen minutes played.
The high scoring first quarter was matched in the second part of the first half. The teams matched each other score for score for the next ten minutes as Jamie Flynn, Bryan McKenna, Aaron Doyle & John Horgan pointed – Horgan’s score completing the full set of starting forwards on the scoreboard.
The first half scoring was far from finished. Points from Bryan McKenna, & Adam O’Neill (2) put Laune Rangers nine ahead, but Rathmore were soon back in the game as they scored the first goal of the game with points either side of it. The home side responded well though and scored a goal of their own before the break – Alex Garry with the finish – while Oran O’Sullivan pointed the last score of the period.
Half Time Score:- Laune Rangers 1-17, Rathmore 1-9.
Rathmore got the ideal start to the second half with an early goal and a quickly followed point but the hosts replied in strong fashion again – Adam O’Neill with three frees before Jamie Flynn pointed another.
Rathmore rose again though, and scored an unanswered 1-3 to draw themselves back to within a couple of points. Laune Rangers responded with points from Jamie Flynn, substitute Tomás Joy & Adam O’Neill (free) before Rathmore pointed once more. Laune Rangers closed out with an insurance goal – Bryan McKenna & James Jones linked up before Jones passed across the square for Colm O’Shea to palm the ball to the net.
It was enough for Laune Rangers to close the game out and progress to the County Minor Shield Semi Final against South Kerry.
