Listowel Emmets vs Laune Rangers

Listowel Emmets 1-23 (26) – Laune Rangers 1-15 (18).

Laune Rangers exited the Intermediate Championship on Saturday after defeat to a sharp and determined Listowel Emmets side.

Listowel hit the ground running, Sam Tarrant opening the scoring inside 40 seconds. Despite early points from John Tyther and Darragh Clifford, Emmets’ pace and accuracy told, with scores from Conor Sweeney, Sean Keane, Eddie Healy and Aaron Kennelly putting them in control.

Laune Rangers rallied midway through the half with points from Darragh Clifford, Eoin Clifford (2), Ciarán O’Sullivan, and Stephen Gannon, cutting the deficit to a single point. The But Emmets finished the half in style – Kennelly, Walsh, Keane (goal and frees) and Healy leaving them with a commanding 10-point lead at the break.

Half time: Listowel Emmets 1-14 (17), Laune Rangers 0-7 (7).

Sean Keane and Pa Walsh stretched Emmets’ lead early in the second half before Laune Rangers found their rhythm. Eoghan Hassett (half time sub) pointed, Tyther slotted a two-point free, and Gearóid Hassett struck for goal to give Rangers hope, with Dáire Cleary also pointing to cut the gap to five.

But despite further scores from Eoghan Hassett and Cleary, Listowel always had a response. Keane, Kennelly, Healy, Eddie Browne and Jamie McVeigh all raised white flags late on to seal the win.

Laune Rangers battled to the end, but Emmets’ strong first-half finish and scoring spread proved decisive.
