SENIOR LADIES

Laune Rangers Senior Ladies made the long journey to Templenoe on Monday night to play ISG, the team travelled minus a few regulars due to holidays plus other commitments. The starting team included 3 players from u16’s and 2 additional players on the bench.  Much of the game was played in a downpour, making conditions very difficult underfoot. Laune Rangers started brightly kicking some early points, Sara and Laura Leslie leading the way with some fine points. Laune Rangers went in leading at half time 0-11 to 1-4.

As darkness and heavy rain fell the second half commenced, Laune Rangers started brightly getting an early goal from Sara Leslie. Conditions were dreadful at this stage, it was difficult to distinguish both teams at this stage, jerseys were soaked. ISG never gave up the fight and added 2 late goals. Rangers finished out the game with a great goal from Aine Hassett, Sarah O’Brien, Laura Leslie, Riadh O’Sullivan and Ailbhe Clifford added points. Final Score: Laune Rangers 2-15 ISG 3-07

One special mention to u16 players: Jacquelyn, Riadh, Sarah, Saoirse, and Kate for their massive contribution on the victory, each player performed brilliantly in very tough conditions. Well done all Team and Subs: Sarah O’Connor, Laura Patton, Andrea Nolan (Capt), Hannah McGeever, Jacquelyn Owens, Orla O’Brien, Riadh O Sullivan (0-1), Kayleigh McGlashan, Sophia Doherty, Isabella Doherty, Laura Leslie (0-5), Sarah O’Brien (0-2), Ailbhe Clifford (0-1), Sara Leslie (1-04), Aine Hassett (1-02), Aisling O’Connor, Kate Costello and Saoirse O’Shea.

On Monday 2nd September, the ladies hosted Fossa. More on this next week.

MINOR BOYS

Laune Rangers lined out against Rathmore on a muggy Monday evening at Bishop Moynihan/Tim Linehan Park hopeful of progressing through to the quarter finals of the Keane’s Supervalu Minor Championship Shield competition and that early hope was justified with an early goal from Adam O’Neill. There was solid link up play by the Rangers during the first half with Aaron Doyle working well from the half back line with Colm Evans and Jamie Flynn to put up some impressive scores. However a series of frees, a 45′ and some well taken points had Rathmore in a commanding position by the half time mark leading the Rangers on their home ground by six points

Half Time Score Rathmore 2-10, Laune Rangers 2-4

Taking their mark from the impressive display of the seniors the day before, the minors were undeterred by the gap and took advantage of not an inconsiderable breeze to begin to whittle down the margin for the second half. Odhran Foley coming on in the second half on the full forward line. A great solo effort from James Jones at the start of the second half set the tone, followed by fine long-distance points from Colm Evans and Adam O’Neill, kept the momentum going for Laune Rangers and the comeback was on. There was a noticeable pick up of intensity in the second half and what looked like a certain goal effort was just salvaged by excellent Rathmore goalkeeping and the post to keep the margin in Rathmore’s favour. It was a testament to Laune Rangers renewed efforts that it was the 11th minute of the second half for Rathmore to get their first point. However, despite the efforts of the Rangers the 7-point margin 42 minutes in seemed an insurmountable hill to climb. But climb they did with a particular turning point being a well-taken goal from Oran O’Sullivan and good tenacity from the back line and slowly but surely the Rangers doggedly got themselves back into the match. The key scores came near the end from an influential and sprightly Mikey Hynes who’s courageous and quick-thinking, long-range efforts had Ranger’s level with a minute to play. Rathmore won possession from the kickout and were on a mission to find the winner but tackling from the Rangers put paid to their advance. With fading light, the referee made little allowance for injury time and the fairer result was to give both hard-working and evenly matched teams an opportunity to square up again. Laune Rangers will face Rathmore once again to settle the matter and will surely take the positives from this solid effort into the replay.

Final score: Rathmore 3-13, Laune Rangers 3-13.

This game was rescheduled to be replayed on Saturday 31st August but was postponed due to a bereavement.  Our condolences to all involved.

U16 Girls: Laune Rangers: 5-8 (23), Moyvane: 2-10 (16)

Laune Rangers U16 girls put in a stellar team performance to overcome Moyvane U16’s in an exciting and competitive game. Both teams showed great determination, but Laune Rangers ultimately secured a 7-point victory with a final score of 5-8 (23) to 2-10 (16).

The match began with Laune Rangers quickly taking control, finding the back of the net early and continuing to build on that momentum. Their sharpness in attack, combined with solid defending, allowed them to establish a significant lead by halftime. Moyvane worked hard to keep up and responded with points from both play and frees, but Laune Rangers went into the break with a comfortable lead of 3-3 (12) to 0-3 (3).

Moyvane came out stronger in the second half, narrowing the gap with some well-taken scores, including a goal that gave them a much-needed boost. However, Laune Rangers continued to apply pressure and capitalised on their chances, adding to their goal tally and finishing the game with a series of well-earned points. Despite Moyvane’s best efforts, Laune Rangers’ teamwork and clinical finishing secured the win.

Overall, Laune Rangers showed their quality throughout the game, with a strong team effort leading them to victory. Moyvane battled hard and made the game competitive, particularly in the second half, but they couldn’t quite close the gap.
