Laune Rangers Senior A defeated Milltown/Castlemaine earlier today in Round 3 of the Credit Union Senior Football League, to make it 3 wins from the opening 3 games of our return to Division 1. Laune Rangers and Milltown/Castlemaine met for their local derby Credit Union County Senior Football League, Division 1, Round 3 game on Sunday afternoon last in Paddy Burke Park, Milltown. In what was a rather lacklustre affair, Laune Rangers emerged victorious securing 3 wins from their opening 3 games on their return to Division 1.
Milltown/Castlemaine opened the scoring in the 3rd minute when Dylan O’Neill split the posts after being on the receiving end of a quickly taken free from David Roche. Laune Rangers levelled the game at 0-01 apiece in the 5th minute with John Tyther putting his free over the bar. Éanna O’Connor put Milltown/Castlemaine ahead once more in the 13th minute with another converted free. Fiachra Clifford levelled the game a 0-02 apiece for the second time in the 21st minute when he sent his free over after a foul on Eoin O’Sullivan. A final John Tyther free put the visitors in front in the 25th minute to let the score at the short whistle: Laune Rangers 0-03 to 0-02 Milltown/Castlemaine.
Laune Rangers got the second half scoring underway with Eoin Clifford winning possession from the throw in. The ball was sent forward to Daire Cleary who coolly slotted it over the bar to let the score 0-04 to 0-02 in the visitor’s favour with less than a minute of the second half played. Cleary was on hand again in the 8th minute when he took his free short to Rory O’Connor who added another point to Rangers’ tally, 0-05 to 0-02. Éanna O’Connor sent over another free for the home side in the 10th minute to close Rangers’ lead to two points. In the 18th minute, Rangers’ Seán Cleary cleared his lines well and the ball was worked forward to Fiachra Clifford who passed off to an oncoming Patrick Carey. Carey saw his shot saved by Cormac Leane in the Milltown/Castlemaine goal and pushed over the bar for a point to let the score 0-06 to 0-03 in Rangers’ favour heading into the final 10 minutes of the game. Laune Rangers extended their lead to four points in the 23rd minute with another pointed free, this time from the boot of substitute Patrick Daly. Éanna O’Connor added another converted free for Milltown/Castlemaine in the 27th minute, in what was to be the final score of the game. Full-time score: Laune Rangers 0-07 to 0-04 Milltown/Castlemaine.

Laune Rangers Senior Development Team had their first win in Division 5B of their Credit Union Senior Football League campaign in a low scoring affair in Rathmore. Senior Development team travelled to a blustery Rathbeg in Rathmore Sunday afternoon. The conditions underfoot were heavy with the rain brought by Storm Kathleen, Laune Rangers dug out a hard fought 2 point victory, their first win of the season. Laune Rangers got the score board ticking with a point from a mark by Roan Moriarty and point from play from Cian O’Shea putting the visitors 0-2 to 0-0 after 4 minutes. Rathmore then replied with two points from play. Rathmore kept pushing forward trying to get a foothold in the game but the Laune Rangers full back line – Cathal O’Callaghan, Evan Madden Sean O’Donnell were quick to clear the ball to thwart any Rathmore threat. 15 minutes in Cillian Buckley kicked a point from play and at 18 minutes Cian O’Shea converted a free. Scoreline Laune Rangers 0-4 Rathmore 0-2. With a swirling wind and heavy underfoot conditions, it was another 12 minutes before the next score was register and it was Rathmore who got that score. However Darragh O’Grady kicked a point from play leaving 2 points between the sides at half time.

With Gavin O’Shea and Callum Russell at midfield, Laune Rangers won possession from the throw in and launched an attack, resulted in Darragh O’Grady being fouled and Cian O’Shea converting the free. Rathmore then kicked a point from play and Laune Rangers Morgan O’Sullivan kicked a great point from a difficult angle. As play continued both teams fought hard to get the next score. Rathmore got then got the next two points to put a point between the sides. Laune Rangers 0-7, Rathmore 0-6. Laune Rangers next score came from the boot of Cian O’Shea when referee Tom McCarthy awarded a free after a foul on Callum Russell who had started to drive forward from midfield. The home side eager to get another score worked the ball in search of a goal but Jason Browne and Daragh O’Connor worked well together to clear their lines. From the resulting free Laune Rangers worked the ball back up the field and won a free which Cian O’Shea converted. With 10 minutes remaining, scoreline Laune Rangers 0-9, Rathmore 0-6, Rathmore got the next score from play, leaving final score in Rathbeg Laune Rangers 0-9, Rathmore 0-7.
All players played exceptionally well from start to finish in exceptionally wet underfoot conditions and gale winds at times today. Congratulations to Sean O’Donnell who had his first senior start for Laune Rangers.

Minor men play Spa in semi-final of county league on Monday evening in JP O’Sullivan Park at 6.30pm.

U16 Girls secured a draw in their first home game of East Kerry League against MKL B. Final Score Laune Rangers 2-8, MKL B 4-2. They are away to Dr Crokes on Thursday evening at 6.30 in Round 2 of East Kerry League.
U15 Boys have an away game to Austin Stacks on Wednesday night and White Team are at home to Na Gaeil (B) on the same evening, both games at 7pm.
U13 Boys– Both Blue and White teams are at home next Sunday14th to Listowel Emmetts,5.30pm & 7pm respectively.
U12 Girls – U12 girls play ISG in JP O’Sullivan Park on Tuesday evening at 6.30pm.
U11 Boys – U11 Boys commence their County Go Games with away games to Milltown/Castlemaine on Thursday evening at 630pm.
U9 Boys – the boys commence their Go Game series with home games to Rathmore on Tuesday evening at 6.15pm.
