Glenbeigh/Glencar opened the scoring but Laune Rangers, playing with the breeze, scored points through Cian O’Shea & Patryk Radny. Glenbeigh/Glencar would point three in succession, but Laune Rangers responded with points from Patryk Radny & Gavin O’Shea to level matters, and further scores from Matt Leslie & Callum Russell gave the visitors the lead at the break.

Half Time Score: – Glenbeigh/Glencar 0-4, Laune Rangers 0-6.

Darragh O’Grady pointed to cancel out an earlier free before Laune Rangers struck for the first goal of the game – defenders Oisín Birmingham & Calum Moriarty teaming up to put the latter through to smash the ball to the net.

Cian O’Shea & John Tyther (free) added further points before Darragh Clifford struck for Laune Rangers second goal. Two goals in quick succession were scored by Stephen Gannon & Cian O’Shea to rubber stamp the win, as Glenbeigh/Glencar tagged on a few consolation points as time ran out.

Match Report:

Laune Rangers are the Mid Kerry Minor champions of 2024, after winning a fascinating battle against Keel/Listry last Saturday. Paddy Burke Memorial Park in Milltown was in sublime condition in the Autumn sunshine for this highly anticipated contest.

Both teams played the game in a very sporting manner, helped by referee Tom Corbett, who officiated the game excellently.

Laune Rangers, without long term injury absentees, Conor West, Aaron Doyle, and Liam O’Connell, started slowly, with Brien Mangan, James Clifford, Eanna Murphy and Ryan Costello being to the fore for Keel/Listry.

The Launesiders were trailing by 1-3 to 0-1 after 12 minutes, but Adam Radny pulled off a vital save to keep us in touch, and he was well aided by his defenders in keeping the threat at bay during this opening period.

Gradually, Laune Rangers managed to claw themselves into the match, with the excellent work rate of our forwards and midfielders contributing to the boys in blue leading at halftime, by 2-6 to 1-5. The goals came from Colm Evans, after a great team move, the end of it being Jamie Flynn passing across the goalmouth for Colm to palm to the net, and the other being toe poked over the line by Jamie Flynn, after an exceptional tackle by Tomás Joy, who won the ball back from a defender, while Keel/Listry were attempting to clear their lines.

The second half began as the first half finished, with Laune Rangers scoring a few points to stretch their lead. The Keel/Listry boys didn’t give in and responded with a goal and a few points of their own to narrow the gap to 3 points. After 15 minutes of the second half played, Adam O’Neill decisively tucked a penalty into the bottom corner of the net after Jamie Flynn was taken down as he bared down on goal.

A couple of minutes later, James Jones got in on the act, as he forced the ball over the line for Laune Rangers fourth goal, after a long-range effort for a point by Oran O’Sullivan dropped short, causing confusion in the Keel/Listry defence.

With 10 minutes left in the match, Keel/Listry threw everything at Laune Rangers, but some resolute and disciplined defending kept our goals intact.

There were great scenes of joy when the final whistle went, with Laune Rangers ahead by 4-10 to 2-10.

There were superb performances from all of the Laune Rangers players on the day, but the man of the match award, deservedly went to Ciarán Birmingham, who played very well throughout, especially in the last quarter of the match when his team were under immense pressure.

Team captain, Oran O’Sullivan, gave a wonderful speech, after he accepted the Derry O’Sullivan Memorial Shield on behalf of his teammates, and the management group of Shane O’Sullivan, John O’Donnell, Pierce Prendeville, Aiden Spillane, Pat O’Shea and John Griffin.

This was a great way for our older age minors to finish up their underage careers, as they go on to senior football next year.

Laune Rangers: Adam Radny, Patrick O’Donnell, James Jones (1-0), Dylan Flynn, Charlie O’Sullivan, Ciarán Birmingham, Daniel Kelly, Alex Garry, Adam O’Neill (1-3), Colm Evans (1-1) Oran O’Sullivan, John Horgan, Jamie Flynn (1-2), Tomás Joy (0-2), Bryan McKenna (0-2).

Subs: Colm O’Shea, Callum Russell, Rian Hogan, Brian Foley, Mikey Hynes, Odhran Foley, Hugh O’Sullivan, Conor Murphy, Charlie Foley

Keel/Listry: Corey Campion, Chris Kelliher, David McCarthy, Lee Crillo, Johnny Sexton, Danny Murphy, Coleman Courtney, Brian Mangan, Ryan Carey, Allyn O’Shea, Killian Fitzgerald, Cillian O’Donoghue, Ryan Costello, James Clifford, Eanna Murphy.

Subs: Daire McCarthy, Max Clifford, Páraic Bonner, Keelan Kelliher, Tom O’Dowd, James Spillane, Kyle Benson, Keelin Riordan, James Leslie, Michael Griffin, Conor Flaherty, Fergal Murphy.

Final Result: – Keel/Listry 2-10, Laune Rangers 4-10.

U16 GIRLS

U16 girls were also successful in their final last week v Ballyduff which was held in Abbeydorney on Wednesday night (09th October).

Match Report: County League Final v Ballyduff.

Our U16’s ladies played their much-anticipated County League final v Ballyduff on Wednesday last under lights in Abbeydorney.

Laune Rangers elected to play against the breeze in the first half. Ballyduff went ahead after 2 minutes following a turnover in the middle of the park, punished by a well taken goal. Laune Rangers worked the ball up the field with some excellent passing to claw back the deficit, scoring some excellent points against the breeze.

Ballyduff went through for a second goal, but Laune Rangers replied in kind with some super link play and a cracking goal of their own.

Ballyduff finished the half strong and tacked on a few long-range points to finish the half 4 points clear.

Half Time: Laune Rangers 1-04 Ballyduff 2-05

Laune Rangers came out in the second hoping to take advantage of the breeze. A few well taken points brought them back in the game and another goal on 10 minutes put them in front for the first time. Ballyduff to their credit had plenty play in the Laune Rangers half but our backs were in no mood in the second half to give anything easy. The defence mopped up any loose play and launched attacks of their own. The excellent fitness levels of our midfield and half forwards and excellent off the ball movement by inside forwards created scoring chances including 2 more well executed goals. Some long-range shooting from distance seen Laune Rangers go 10 points clear. Legs were getting tired due to the fast pace of this Final. However, Laune Rangers had a wealth of talent and freshness to come off the bench and prevent the opposition from closing the gap.

Full Time: Laune Rangers 4-10 Ballyduff 2-07

U13 Girls finished off the week for underage success with a win in Tralee over Fossa in U13 Club Championship ‘B’ Final.

Match Report by Declan Murphy

Girls U13 Laune Rangers team played their rescheduled 13 Championship Final versus Fossa in John Mitchel’s GAA Complex Sunday 13th October. It was a credit to the Players and Mentors from both Laune Rangers and Fossa, that they kept up the intensity in their training, for an extra 2 weeks leading up to today’s final.

The rain that fell for the duration of this final did not dampen the very good footballing skills by both teams.

After a few minutes of play Fossa, kicked a well worked point to open their account. Laune Rangers after good play from Roisin Murphy and Megan Quigg, drove to ball up towards Holly O’Shea who with great pace passed a nice ball into Evelyn Bowler who had Niamh Hassett in support who took the ball and opened Rangers account with the first goal of the game. Fossa reacted with the next 4 scores, all of which were well taken points. Rangers were under pressure during this time but great work by Lauren O’Sullivan, Caoimhe Hurley and Orla Heffernan, limited the damage and the team also were grateful for Emily McMahon who made 5 good saves as dangerous kicks rained down on her goal.

After 20 minutes into the first half, Rangers were trailing a very good Fossa team by 2 points. By now the players had well settled into the game and the supporters who travelled to the game were adding to the atmosphere of this pulsating game.

With 10 minutes remaining in the half, Nicole Flynn won the ball around the half back line and passed it to Grace Costello who had space to kick the ball to Laura Hobbins who gave a lovely kick pass to Holly Breen who turned and while under pressure scored a wonderful point.

Rangers added another point and through Ellie O’Sullivan the team pressed up on the Fossa kickout, making it difficult for Fossa at times. Fossa through their skill and determination were able to work the ball down the field, when they found gaps using the width of the pitch. Rangers were determined too with Ciara Moore chasing down and winning some ball for her team. With 5 minutes to go, Rangers scored the last point of the first half which was a great team point worked out from Caoimhe Hurley in the full back line, onto Grace Costello, from there to Roisin Murphy who kicked pass to Ellie O’Sullivan who saw Holly Breen in space who subsequently took her point well to half time whistle.

Half time: Laune Rangers 1:03, Fossa 0:05

The second half started off at a great pace with both teams knowing that the game was in the balance. Rangers settled into the second half with some early scores from Laura Hobbins, Holly Breen, Megan Quigg and Niamh Hassett. Fossa had their chances as well and got a goal back.  The Rangers Team were focused throughout with Emily Burke and Abbie Foley added more determination to the team with their work rate, winning the ball from the opposition.  The skill level of the team, under difficult weather conditions was very good. Kayla Moriarty won possession back, which maintained the intensity levels throughout the team. Rebecca O’Shea and Zoe Stack put pressure on their Fossa opponents and showed some great passing, finding their team mates each time, while under pressure.

All players contributed to a great team performance on the day.

When the final whistle had blown, Rangers came away with the win and the final score was

Final score Laune Rangers 3-8, Fossa 1-8

It was a great display of football by both teams and a credit to the coaches for the efforts they have put in all seasons.
