SENIOR LADIES

The ladies set off for Abbeydorney for the second time in month for Quarter Final Stage of Junior A Championship.  The ladies knew Abbeydorney were going to be fired up to meet Laune Rangers again after Laune Rangers beat them in the Club League Final on August 13th.  Abbeydorney set a fast physical pace from the start and Laune Rangers conceded 3 goals in the opening 10 minutes.  The ladies settled and got stuck in and kicked a few nice scores to narrow the gap. Just before half time though Abbeydorney secured additional scores to widen the gap.  Halftime: Abbeydorney 5-9, Laune Rangers 1-5

Throughout the second half, the ladies battled hard and continued to breakdown Abbeydorney defence, but they proved physically stronger than us on the day.

Fulltime: Abbeydorney 6-8, Laune Rangers 2-9

To credit the ladies, they were not found wanting and each gave their all throughout the season.  Well to the team and management for their hard work and commitment all year.  A year of football is not determined by one game.  To say the club are proud of both girls and management is an understatement as Laune Rangers bow out of the championship at this stage, there are plenty of days to look forward to with this squad.  Best of luck to Abbeydorney and the other teams that have qualified for semi-final stage.

MINOR BOYS

Minor Men – Laune Rangers 0-17, Kenmare Shamrocks 4-11

They fought to the final whistle, but ultimately Laune Rangers came up short against Kenmare Shamrocks in the Keane’s Supervalu County Minor Shield Final on Friday evening.

A swirling breeze blew around the pitch in Glenflesk and both teams had their periods both with and against it in the first half.  Kenmare opened the scoring with a free and, after Adam O’Neill had temporarily levelled matters, Shamrocks slotted three in succession to go into a lead they would hold for the remainder of the game.

A Bryan McKenna free was cancelled out by Kenmare to leave Laune Rangers trailing by 0-5 to 0-2 with fifteen minutes played.

Bryan McKenna added a point from play, but Kenmare were on top – a well taken point followed by their first goal in the 20th minute.

Laune Rangers were stronger for the remainder of the half, and points from Bryan McKenna, Jamie Flynn & Tomás Joy (two frees) were met by two points by the opposition as Kenmare took a four-point lead into the break.

Half Time Score: – Laune Rangers 0-7, Kenmare Shamrocks 1-8.

Tomás Joy pointed frees either side of a point at the other end before Kenmare scored their second goal to take a commanding lead.  Laune Rangers continued to attack though, and their persistence was awarded with frees being kicked by Tomás Joy while Bryan McKenna added a pair of his own from play – Kenmare leading by 2-9 to 0-13 with a quarter to play.

Kenmare scored an excellent ’45 after the initial shot was saved and forced out by Adam Radny, and the Rangers goalkeeper repeated the feat a couple of minutes later – Kenmare quickly popping over a point again though.

Adam O’Neill pointed a free, but Kenmare’s now three-point lead was quickly doubled as Laune Rangers were camped forward and Kenmare broke downfield to strike to the net.  Adam O’Neill (free) and Odhran Foley cut the deficit to keep Rangers in the hunt, but another breakaway goal sealed the win for Kenmare.  Adam O’Neill’s last throw of the dice free kick aimed at goal flashed over the bar, and the final whistle was blown to see Kenmare Shamrocks claim the County Minor Shield.

Full Time Score: Laune Rangers 0-17, Kenmare Shamrocks 4-11.

Laune Rangers: Adam Radny, Daniel Kelly, Dylan Flynn, Rian Hogan, Aaron Doyle, James Jones, Patrick O’Donnell, Charlie O’Sullivan, Alex Garry, Colm Evans, Adam O’Neill (0-4, 3f), Oran O’Sullivan, Jamie Flynn (0-1), John Horgan, Bryan McKenna (0-5, 1f).  Subs: Tomás Joy (0-6f) for Hogan, Odhran Foley (0-1) for J Flynn, Conor Murphy for O’Donnell
