SENIOR A TEAM
The County Senior Football League season came to a close on Sunday afternoon, and Laune Rangers finished the season as runners up in Division 1 as they closed out the campaign with an entertaining draw with Kilcummin in JP O’Sullivan Park.
Laune Rangers opened with early points from Cian O’Shea and Patrick Daly, but Kilcummin struck for goal in the 6th minute through Gary O’Leary. Kevin Gorman, O’Leary (2) & Paudie Moynihan added points to stretch out their lead.
John Tyther pointed a free to leave his side halve behind with fifteen minutes played, and he added two more to further reduce his team’s arrears. Shane Daly scored an excellent point for Laune Rangers, but Kilcummin scored their second goal through Donal Maher to restore their four point cushion – Paul O’Shea with a super pass to put Maher through.
Ciarán O’Sullivan and John Tyther (free) replied for Laune Rangers but Mikey O’Shea closed out the first half with a point to give Kilcummin a three point lead at the break.
Half Time Score:- Laune Rangers 0-8, Kilcummin 2-5.
Eoin O’Connell was introduced at the interval for his Laune Rangers Senior debut. Much like the first half, Laune Rangers scored two early points through Matt Leslie & Cian O’Shea (free) but Kilcummin replied through O’Shea brothers Paul (free) & Mark.
Gary O’Leary added to his account with another Kilcummin point before Laune Rangers struck an excellent goal. Patrick Carey took a quick free and found Stephen Sealy who had timed his run perfectly, and Sealy lobbed Brendan Kealy and a pair of defenders to find the net with a great finish.
Chris O’Leary replied with a point for Kilcummin to leave the visitors ahead by 2-9 to 1-10 with fifteen minutes remaining.
Adam Carey making his Senior team debut, pulled off a point blank save to keep Laune Rangers in the game, before Ciarán O’Sullivan levelled matters with his second point from corner back.
Both sides made changes in the final quarter, with Darragh & Marc Clifford both introduced to join their brother Shane on the field – the first time all three took the field together at Senior level.
John Tyther (free) and Seán Doolan (mark) traded points before Paul O’Shea put Kilcummin two points ahead. Another Senior debutant Seánie Diggin slotted one back for Laune Rangers and, with the last kick of the game, John Tyther tapped over his 6th free to see the spoils shared.
