Kerins O’Rahillys 1-8, Laune Rangers 2-11

Eleven years have passed since Laune Rangers last took the field in Division 1 of the County Senior Football League, but that run came to an end on Saturday evening with a trip to Strand Road and a victory over Kerins O’Rahillys.

Fiachra Clifford opened the scoring with an excellent point before Laune Rangers scored their first goal.  Eoin O’Sullivan was fouled in the square for a penalty, and John Tyther slotted the spot kick to the net.

Ryan Carroll & Fiachra Clifford traded frees before Barry John Keane pointed a free for Kerin’s O’Rahillys.  Eoin Clifford & Ciarán O’Sullivan pointed to increase the Laune Rangers lead before Ryan Carroll responded with an excellent pointed 45.  A John Tyther free preceded Laune Rangers’ second goal – Dáire Cleary ending a 40 yard run with the finish to the net.

Half Time Score:- Kerins O’Rahillys 0-3, Laune Rangers 2-5.

Eoin O’Sullivan punched the ball over the crossbar for the second half’s opening score.  Gearóid Savage pointed his side’s only score from play, before an excellent pass by Eoin Clifford put Dáire Cleary into space and he took a point, while his brother Seán nullified a Tom Hoare free with another point.

Ryan Carroll was brandished a black card in the 40th minute, although they did see out that 10 minute spell holding their opponents scoreless and scoring two Gearóid Savage frees of their own.

John Tyther tapped over a free before Cian O’Shea pointed with his first touch, and Stephen Sealy added another from play to increase the Laune Rangers lead to ten points with time almost up.  A late penalty for a foul on Ross O’Callaghan was scored by Ryan Carroll, while a Gearóid Savage free proved to be the last play of the game.

Senior Men Development Team – County League Division 5B

Laune Rangers 2 – 7, Sneem/Derrynane 1-10

Laune Rangers Development Team commenced their  Credit Union County League campaign on Saturday evening with a home game to Sneem/Derrynane.  It what was a game of two halves, Laune Rangers found it difficult to break through the Sneem/Derrynane defence in the first half where visitors were also aided by a strong breeze, at the half time point Sneem/Derrynane led 0-8 to  Laune Rangers 0-2. Laune Rangers scorers in first half were Darragh Clifford from free and Gavin O’Shea from play.

Laune Rangers regrouped at half time and second half commenced, Darragh O’Grady kicked a point,  Sneem/Derrynane then struck for an early goal which left the home side down 8 points.  But credit to the Laune Rangers players they dug deep, points kicked from play by Tom Garry, Callum Russell, a free converted by Darragh Clifford who then struck for goal, saw the home team just two points down with 10 mins left on the clock. Sneem/Derrynane kicked a point, which saw the visitors pull 3 ahead.  Darragh Clifford kicked a point to bring the gap back to 2 points and Ronan O’Shea kicked the ball to the back to the net to put Laune Rangers in front for the first time.  Sneem/Derrynane responded fast and Adam Carey caught a high ball coming in and cleared it away.  Sneem/Derrynane were on the attack again and a player was fouled, the visitors converted the free to level the game.  Referee Brian O’Sullivan blew the final whistle leaving it all square in Killorglin.

Laune Rangers hosted John Mitchell’s this evening in JP O’Sullivan Park in a rescheduled game due to the weather conditions of late. Laune Rangers welcomed back Ciaràn Birmingham, Aaron Doyle and Patrick O’Donnell who are returning after being out injured.

The first half was a tight affair with both teams 5 points apiece at the short whistle – Adam O’Neill scoring 4 points and John Horgan one from play. Aaron Doyle who was returning after long term injury was brought on as a first half substitute.

Second half started with a consistent drizzle making underfoot conditions difficult. Both teams exchanged scores but then Colm Evans struck for great goal to put Laune Rangers up 5 points after 12 minutes of the 2nd half. However, this lead built up by the home team disappeared quickly with John Mitchell’s scoring two rapid fire goals. John Mitchell’s now a point ahead, with only minutes remaining were awarded a free that was converted by John Mitchel’s centre forward Gearoid White. The next few minutes saw possession exchanged a handful of times, however with seconds remaining on the clock, Laune Rangers down 0-2, won possession from their own kick out and worked the ball up the field to with a flurry of passes that finished with Charlie O’Sullivan getting on the end of it, to hit the net to put Laune Rangers a point up. Referee Billy O’Shea blew the final whistle just as John Mitchell’s goalkeeper kicked out the ball. Final Score – Laune Rangers 2-10 John Mitchell’s 2-9.
