Killarney Legion 1-9, Laune Rangers Blue 5-14
Laune Rangers have been crowned winners of Phase 1 of the County Under 13 League Division 1, following victory over Legion in Killarney on Sunday evening.
Legion pointed to cancel out the opening score of the evening by Colm Evans and, when Tomás Joy put Rangers ahead again in the opening minutes, they held the lead until the final whistle. Colm Evans kicked a nice point following a great cross-field pass by Callum Robertson, and Robertson got on the scoresheet himself as he hit the net for the visitors’ first goal. Colm Evans soon added a second goal to see Rangers leading by 2-3 to 0-1 at the first water break.
A second quarter hat-trick by Jamie Flynn put Rangers in the driving seat as points were added by Colm Evans, while Legion added six points of their own. Luke Carey pulled off a fine save to deny Legion a goal, while the backs put in a great effort also to cut out the attack time and again – Charlie Foley, Pat Costello and Ciarán Birmingham with some great interceptions.

Laune Rangers continued their fine performance into the second half, as Tomás Joy and Colm Evans (2) pointed. A pointed free by the home side was soon cancelled out by Liam O’Connell while Tomás Joy added another, as Callum Robertson won a lot of 50-50 ball going down his flank. At the second half water break, Rangers led by 5-10 to 0-8.
Legion made a big effort to get back into the game in the final quarter, but Rangers were equal to the onslaught – corner backs Conor Sheehan & Cormac Sweeney cutting out a number of shots. Colm Evans & Ciarán Birmingham added points before Legion added one at the other end. Jamie Flynn and Tomás Joy added the visitors’ final scores as Legion struck for a goal just before the final whistle.
