Listry 1-6, Laune Rangers A 0-7
Round 1 of the County Senior Football League saw Laune Rangers make the short trip to Listry early on St Patrick’s Day, and it was the home side that secured the first league points of the year. The unavailability of a number of players saw Rangers take the field with only 1 outfield player over the age of 23.
Points from Aaron O’Shea and Joe Clifford (free) saw Listry lead by two after 5 minutes, but Rangers replied with points from Matt Leslie (free) and Jack O’Connor to level the game with fifteen minutes played.
Ronan Buckley scored a well taken point to nudge the home side ahead, before the only goal of the game was scored as Aaron O’Shea’s suspected point attempt dropped short into Jason Browne’s net. O’Shea added a point a few minutes later, but Rangers finished the half strongly and points by Eoin and Fiachra Clifford saw a goal separate the sides at the break.
Half Time Score:- Listry 1-4, Laune Rangers A 0-4
Aaron O’Shea added a point to increase the lead for the hosts but, after a ten minute period without a score, Jack O’Connor and Roan Moriarty pointed to halve the deficit and leave two between the teams with a quarter of the game remaining.
Fiachra Clifford pointed to leave just one between the sides before Ronan Buckley scored a long range pointed free – the score of the game – to cancel it out in the 51st minute. The final ten minutes were dominated by Rangers but they couldn’t convert their chances into scores as time expired. Jack O’Connor received a black card in injury time as the final whistle came to give the win to the home team.
