Minors vs GGC 08-10-2022

Laune Rangers 3-12, Glenbeigh/Glencar/Cromane 1-8

Laune Rangers will contest the Mid Kerry Minor Championship Final following defeat of Glenbeigh/Glencar/Cromane (GGC) in Cloon on Saturday afternoon.

A low scoring first quarter saw GGC take an early lead with a point, but John Burke slotted a free to level matters a few minutes later.  Points were traded between the sides (Darragh Clifford for Rangers) before the home side scored the first goal of the game through Niall O’Brien.  After slotting a free, GGC saw a shot saved well by Conor Buckley to leave Laune Rangers leading by 1-2 to 0-2 after fifteen minutes.

A long ball forward saw Stevie Gannon break the dropping ball to Jack Lynch who slotted the ball over the bar, and Niall O’Brien added another point a couple of minutes later.  An off the ball incident saw players from both sides dismissed, while points were exchanged between the sides twice before the break, as Jack Lynch & Darragh Clifford (free) each saw their scores nullified by GGC.

Half Time Score:- Laune Rangers 1-6, Glenbeigh/Glencar/Cromane 0-5.

GGC were level within three minutes of the restart – the visitors seeing a free kick drop short into the small square to be punched to the net by the waiting forward, and adding a point to level the game at 1-6 a piece.  GGC were issued with consecutive black cards – the second one being added to an earlier yellow to see the player leave the game permanently.  Darragh Clifford (two, one free) & Stevie Gannon scored points to put Laune Rangers ahead by 1-9 to 1-6 with fifteen minutes to play.

Laune Rangers had an extra man on the field for the final quarter – 14 players to 13 – but GGC had another goal chance pushed away by Conor Buckley before Laune Rangers extended their lead with points from Patryk Radny (two, one free).  GGC scored two more points, but in between these scores was Laune Rangers second goal – Stevie Gannon with a deft chip to the net.  A third goal would follow through John Burke, while Seánie Diggin slotted the final point of the game before the final whistle.
