Laune Rangers team vs Beaufort 26-02-23

Laune Rangers 1-9, Beaufort 2-10

Beaufort took the bragging rights in the final round of group games in JP O’Sullivan Park on Sunday afternoon.  With both sides already qualified, the prize for the winner was home advantage in the upcoming Semi Finals.

A 7th minute goal by Seán O’Brien gave Beaufort the lead after John Tyther & Gearóid Hassett had pointed for Rangers.  Darragh Dennehy, Darragh O’Connor (free) and Liam Carey added points to give Beaufort a 1-3 to 0-2 lead with a quarter played.

The first half would become more a story of chances missed than scored, particularly on the Laune Rangers side as a number of shots at goal were missed, but both sides added on points before the break to maintain the four point difference between the sides into the break.

Half Time Score:- Laune Rangers 0-5, Beaufort 1-6.

Points from Gearóid Hassett and Gavin O’Shea halved the deficit temporarily early in the second half but Liam Carey utilized the offensive mark to knock over two well taken points, before Beaufort added a second goal through substitute Jack Sweeney to lead by seven points with fifteen minutes to play.

A brace by Mark O’Connor was followed by an excellent Ronan Murphy point and, while Gearóid Hassett struck late on to leave Rangers chasing a leveller, Mick O’Sullivan kicked the insurance point with the last kick of the game.
