Laune Rangers 0-12, Glenbeigh/Glencar 0-12

Spoils were shared between local rivals Laune Rangers and Glenbeigh/Glencar on Sunday afternoon in Round 9 of the Credit Union County Senior Football League Division 2.  The result sees Laune Rangers remain in the hunt for promotion with two rounds of the league remaining.

John Burke’s Leaving Cert commitments saw him join the list of absentees for Laune Rangers.  Marc Clifford came into the side to make his full Senior debut for the home side.

Colin McGillicuddy opened the scoring for the visitors in the second minute, but Laune Rangers levelled through Eoghan Hassett before Rory O’Connor and Hassett (free) put the hosts ahead.

Darran O’Sullivan rolled back the years on Sunday with an excellent display, and he scored the first of four points for his side in the tenth minute.  Tom Whittleton pointed for Rangers before Caolim Teahan replied with a pointed free to leave Laune Rangers ahead by 0-4 to 0-3 with fifteen minutes played.

Eoghan Hassett doubled his team’s lead with a pointed free, but Glenbeigh/Glencar replied with two excellent points through Gavan O’Grady & Jack Brosnan to level matters.  Eoghan Hassett (free) and Liam Smith traded points before the first clear goal chance of the game fell to the home side.  Eoghan Hassett dropped a shot short and Rory O’Connor knocked the ball out of Donal O’Neill’s possession onto the crossbar.  O’Connor was first to the rebounding ball but the Glenbeigh/Glencar defence turned the ball over.

Gavan O’Grady (free) and Darran O’Sullivan pointed to give Glenbeigh/Glencar their first lead of the game, and Eoghan Hassett halved the deficit for Laune Rangers with a point before the break.

Half Time Score:- Laune Rangers 0-7, Glenbeigh/Glencar 0-8.

The game was quickly levelled at the beginning of the second half, as more Laune Rangers pressure saw a free won and slotted by Eoghan Hassett.  The visitors regained the lead with a pointed mark by Gavan O’Grady after a long pass from Darran O’Sullivan.

Matt Leslie and Gavan O’Grady (free) exchanged points before Laune Rangers levelled again through John Tyther as his long range shot bounced in the square and over the bar.  With fifteen minutes remaining, the sides could not be separated as scores were locked at 0-10 apiece.

Darran O’Sullivan drove his side on, and he scored two consecutive points to put the visitors into a commanding position.  However, the young Laune Rangers side kept plugging away as Fiachra Clifford, introduced earlier in the second half, pointed to leave a point between the teams.  A black card for Liam Smith left Glenbeigh/Glencar a man short for the remainder of the game.  Laune Rangers continued to attack, and persevered with time nearly out – Patrick Daly fouled in the D for a free and Eoghan Hassett making no mistake to level the game with its final act.
