Laune Rangers B 0-7, Finuge 0-7
Laune Rangers B team opened their 2023 County League Division 5 season with a draw at home to Finuge on Sunday afternoon.
The scores were level at 0-4 a piece at the break after both sides had kicked some nice scores in difficult conditions. Laune Rangers, with a strong breeze at their backs scored points through Darragh O’Grady, Gavin O’Shea & Jack O’Sullivan after Darragh Mackessy had opened the scoring, to leave the home side ahead by three at the midpoint of the first half.
Finuge adjusted to the conditions and won frees – three of them converted through Mackessy (2) and Evan McCarthy while Gavin O’Shea added another from long range for Rangers. Half Time Score:- Laune Rangers B 0-4, Finuge 0-4.
An early point by Darragh O’Grady was eventually nullified by a Darragh Mackessy free to maintain the stalemate with a quarter to play. Darragh O’Grady pointed a free to nudge Laune Rangers ahead, but Liam O’Brien not alone equalized but put Finuge ahead with two excellent points. However, Laune Rangers were not to be denied a share of the spoils on the opening day of Division 5, and Ciarán O’Sullivan slotted a late leveller to see the sides finish honours even.
