Beale 1-5, Laune Rangers 2-24
Laune Rangers travelled to Ballybunion to play Beale in Round 3 of the Donal Curtin cup. Played in ideal conditions, Laune Rangers were looking to maintain their winning start in the competition. Laune Rangers were missing a number of players and had only 16 players to choose from on the day.
The game started with both team’s swapping early points. Both teams were enjoying periods of dominance around midfield and after 10 minutes Laune Rangers led 0-5 to 0-2. Then came the first goal for Laune Rangers and this was quickly followed by a point. While not being at their best in the first 15 minutes the visitors had built up a good lead. Then Beale struck for their only goal. The reaction by Laune Rangers was excellent and after cutting out the errors, they went on to score the next 9 points, to leave the half time score 1-15 to 1-02.
The early stages of the second half was dominated by Beale and they kept the ball inside the Laune Rangers 45 for a few minutes, but great defending and a great save by Sarah O’Connor kept them out. Laune Rangers then picked up the pace and added a number of points before a great Fodhla Houlihan goal saw Laune Rangers run out comfortable winners. Full time Score:- Beale 1-5, Laune Rangers 2-24.
This again was a great performance by Laune Rangers with a number of girls having to play out of position, due to player unavailability. Erin Murphy, who was playing wing back, put in a great performance. The backs were brilliant throughout with Andrea Nolan mopping up everything at fullback. The midfielders worked extremely hard and linked play throughout and up front the forwards took some great scores with Fodhla Houlihan being Laune Rangers scorer in chief on the day.
