Laune Rangers 1-16, Currow 1-8
Laune Rangers campaign in the Kerry Petroleum Intermediate Championship came to an end on Saturday evening, as victory over Currow in JP O’Sullivan Park saw them finish third in their group, missing out on progression to the Quarter Finals but staying clear of the relegation playoffs also.
Laune Rangers were playing against the elements in the first half as the breeze, occasional showers and the odd beam of sunlight were in the faces of the home side for the opening period.
Fiachra Clifford opened the scoring with a point but it was soon cancelled out by Dan O’Sullivan for Currow. Dáire Cleary, Pa Carey and Ryan Diggin all pointed to give the hosts a 0-4 to 0-1 lead with a quarter played.
David Mangan came close to the first goal of the game but his shot struck the upright and away to safety, and this appeared to spring Currow into life. Cathal Brosnan and John Curtin used the breeze at their backs to score excellent long range points and, after Gearóid Hassett had replied with a super point at the other end, Cathal Brosnan added another brace from outside the 45’ to level matters at 0-5 apiece.
Laune Rangers closed out the half the stronger side, and points by Matt Leslie (free) John Tyther & Gearóid Hassett (free) gave them the lead by three at the break.

Gearóid Hassett and Patrick Carey pointed to add to the lead early in the second half, before the home side struck for the first goal to open up an insurmountable lead. Patrick Carey, with a sideline ball, sent a direct pass into Eoin O’Sullivan at the edge of the square and the full forward wasted no time In striking the net.
Gearóid Hassett pointed to add to his tally before goalkeeper Padraig Hilliard replied with a free for Currow.` Fiachra Clifford (two, one free) & Gearóid Hassett continued to add to the lead, although Currow substitute John McMahon would reduce the arrears considerably with 1-2 in the final quarter.
However, Patrick Daly and Patrick Carey kicked late scores for Rangers, closing out their participation in the Club Championships for 2023.
