Senior Ladies – Senior Ladies played Killarney Legion in Division 3 Donal Curtin Final on Monday evening in Fossa. Laune Rangers opened scoring with a well worked passage of play from the ladies from the Laune and Kayleigh McGlashan kicked the opening score in the seventh minute. Andrea Nolan then had a great block to deny Legion getting on the scoreboard, but joint captain Kate McCarthy levelled matters after 11 minutes of the first half. Legion corner forward Ciara Randles scored a great goal putting her team 3 points ahead. Sara Leslie went on to convert 3 frees in the remainder of the half with Legion defence working extremely hard to thwart the attacks from Laune Rangers. Legion added two additional points in the first half.
Half -time Score – Laune Rangers 0-4, Legion 1-3
Lauen Rangers opened the second half with Sara Leslie converting a free, and Legion’s Aine Devlin converted a free giving Legion a two-point cushion again. Nicole Moriarty kicked a point from play and Sara Leslie converted another free to level the game. Substitute Sarah O’Brien who was close to sideline, kicked a point to push Rangers ahead, Sara Leslie converted her sixth free of the evening. Legion worked their way back and converted two frees – both teams’ level for the second time in the second half, Sara Leslie converted another free and Legion converted a free and Aine Devlin kicked another point from play. Aine Hasset was fouled in front of goals and referee Jason O’Brien awarded a penalty and penalty shot trailed wide with Laune Rangers losing by the bare minimum.
Senior Ladies have done remarkably well, having reached the final in this competition for second year in the row and there are other competitions to play for this year. These ladies will learn from this experience and come back stronger.
