Corrib Oil County League Division 4, Round 1.
Laune Rangers: 1-09 (12)
Austin Stacks: 2-03 (9)
Laune Rangers Senior Ladies team travelled to Connolly Park on Monday evening to take on Austin Stacks in the first round of the County League.
While short a few regulars due to injury, holidays and work commitments, Laune Rangers started brightly getting on the scoreboard early, with captain Meadhbh Johnston kicking two early points. At this early stage, Laune Rangers defence were completely on top, repelling Austin Stacks best efforts. Hannah McGeever, Milly Foley and Orla O’Brien were outstanding in the first half. Laune Rangers finished the half strongly, kicking 1-2 in the last 5 mins.
Half time score Laune Rangers 1-7 to Austin Stacks 0-2.
Laune Rangers started the second half brightly but alas kicked 5 wides in the first 10 minutes of the half, two of which were clear goal chances. The missed opportunities gave Stacks the confidence to push for scores and the Rangers backs came under severe pressure and conceded 2 goals in 10 minutes. The final 10 mins was a lot closer than it should have been as Laune Rangers had controlled the game for the most part and all that was scored in the second half was 0-2 making for a very nervous end to the game.
