Laune Rangers travelled to Frank Sheehy Park, Listowel for the final round of Group B in Kerry Petroleum Intermediate Football Championship with everything still to play for in this group.

Stephen Sealey opened the scoring for Laune Rangers with a fisted point from the throw-in.  Listowel kicked the next three scores with Sam Tarrant kicking two free and Aaron Carey kicked a point from play due Laune Rangers being dispossessed and Listowel broke fast with their attack.  Eoghan Hassett scored a point from play with good passage of play from the visitors.

In 13th minute, Listowel Emmetts had a goal chance saved well on the line by Laune Rangers goal keeper Jason Browne and his defence, but Listowel won back possession and JoeJoe Grimes kicked a point.  Darragh Lynch kicked another free to extend the home side lead.  Patrick Daly eager to get Ranger’s game plan ignited, kicked a point from play and Darragh Lynch exchanged on opposite side of field with converted free.  Eddie Healy also opened his scoring tally for the afternoon.  But less than a minute later, Daire Cleary struck for goal, when John Tyther broke Rangers kickout and Laune Rangers worked the ball at pace up the field and Daire Cleary made no mistake in slotting safely away into back of Listowel Emmets net and Laune Rangers trailing by a single point.  However, Listowel trying to thwart Laune Rangers momentum, converted the next two frees that were awarded.  Pa Daly kicked a free and then through misplace Listowel Emmets kickout, Laune Rangers had a goal shot drift narrowly wide. JoeJoe Grimmes and Eoghan Hassett exchanged points at either side.

On 30th minute, Aaron O’Rourke received a black card and Eoghan Hassett calmly slotted over the bar.  To finish the first half, Darragh Lynch and Eoghan Hassett traded pointed frees at either side with half time score, the home side up by 1 point.

Half Time: Listowel Emmets -0-11, Laune Rangers 1-7

 

Laune Rangers with the wind in the second half, and trailing by a point, it was all to play for. Brothers Eoghan & Gearoid Hassett kicked points, Eoghan levelled matters with a free, Gearoid kicked a great score from long range, Eoghan replied with a point from play.  Aaron Carey for Listowel trying to keep a handle on the game kicked a point from play.  Fiachra Clifford and Eoghan Hassett kicked points from play and John Tyther a free to extend their lead.

Gearoid Hassett then scored a well taken goal, from an intercepted ball by Daire Cleary worked to Eoghan Hassett who created a glorious pass to his brother Gearóid ensured the green flag was raised. Listowel were awarded a free and Séan Keane saw his efforts punched away on the line to gather possession and claim his point. Unknown to Listowel, Dáire Cleary was on a goal scoring streak today and struck for his second goal of the day with great work rate by Calum Moriarty.  In the remaining 2 minutes, John Tyther (free) and Eddie Healy (play) exchanged points and finish the afternoon, Dáire Cleary (Clubber TV Man of the Match) kicked his final point of the day and Eoghan Hassett converted a free.

All in all, a very strong second half for Laune Rangers, who look forward to trip to Glenflesk next Sunday afternoon at 1pm to continue their Kerry Petroleum Intermediate Football Championship Campaign.
