Mid Kerry Minor Championship Semi-Final
Match report by Eddie Birmingham
Milltown/Castlemaine 2-8
Laune Rangers 2-15
Laune Rangers minors played Milltown/Castlemaine on Saturday, in the 2nd Minor Championship Semi-Final, which was played on an immaculate playing surface in Milltown.
After suffering a narrow defeat to Keel/Listry on the previous weekend, they welcomed back Ciarán Birmingham and Jamie Flynn from injury for this must win match.
Despite the orange weather warning for rain, which was in place, the wind was light, and it stayed dry throughout the match.
The first half was relatively even between the teams.
With 20 minutes played, the Rangers were ahead by the minimum, 5 points to 4, but they got 3 of the final 4 points scored in the half, to lead by 3 going into the break, Milltown/Castlemaine 0-5, Laune Rangers 0-8.
As he did in the first half week, Adam Radny made a couple of important saves to keep Milltown at bay during the first period of this match.
The 2nd half started in whirlwind fashion, with Milltown/Castlemaine getting the first goal of the match in the 31st minute. Almost immediately, Rangers responded, with Adam O’Neill getting our first goal. And a minute later, Mikey Hynes got in on the act, adding a second goal for Laune Rangers, after great work by our forwards. Both teams added a few points, before Milltown/Castlemaine scored their second goal with 9 minutes remaining, to reduce the gap between the teams to 3 points. Laune Rangers finished strongly however, scoring a few lovely points from play, to finish victorious by 2-15 to 2-08.
The last match of the season for this team will be the final of the Mid Kerry Championship, versus Keel/Listry, where all support will be needed, as our boys attempt to avenge their defeat earlier in the competition.
