Glenbeigh/Glencar 1-8, Laune Rangers 2-14
While Glenbeigh/Glencar generated the first chance of the game with a fisted effort that came back off the upright, it was Laune Rangers who set their stall out early – Stephen Gannon with point in the first minute before the visitors netted the first goal. A great run by Dáire Cleary saw him round a couple of defenders and, while Cian Knight saved the initial chance and sent it skywards, Eoin O’Sullivan was first to the dropping rebound and punched it to the net.
Darragh Clifford added a couple of well taken points – the latter a possible goal chance that crept above the crossbar – and Gearóid Hassett kicked another before Glenbeigh/Glencar registered their first score in a pointed free by Tommy Cahill.
Tommy Cahill added another free before the home side struck for a goal of their own – Cahill putting Seán Tadhg Sheahan through and the wing back finished well to the net – leaving Laune Rangers leading by 1-4 to 1-2 with a quarter of the game played.
Laune Rangers responded well though as, after Stephen Gannon had kicked a point, Gearóid Hassett put Marc Clifford through on goal and the wing forward smashed the ball to the net.
Adrian O’Connor pointed in response for Glenbeigh/Glencar & Dara Casey followed with another shortly after. A Tommy Cahill free was cancelled out by Daire Cleary to leave Laune Rangers leading by four at the break
Half Time Score:- Glenbeigh/Glencar 1-5, Laune Rangers 2-6.
Tommy Cahill opened the second half scoring with a pointed free for Glenbeigh/Glencar, but Stephen Gannon (2) & John Tyther (free) extended the Laune Rangers lead. An Eoin Clifford point with the outside of his boot left Laune Rangers leading by 2-10 to 1-6 with fifteen minutes to play.
A Caolim Teahan point reduced the gap temporarily, but points in quick succession by Patrick Daly (2), Dáire Cleary and Stephen Gannon stretched the Laune Rangers lead to ten points.
A Caolim Teahan free brought the deficit to within single digits but they would not have the chance to cut the gap any further with Laune Rangers claiming an excellent win.
