Laune Rangers B 2-19, Kilgarvan 2-8

 

Laune Rangers Development Team opened their 2025 county league campaign with a win against Kilgarvan. It was 6 minutes before either side registered a score with Laune Rangers scored first with a point from play by Ronan O’Shea. Darragh O’Grady and Adam Owens also added points before Kilgarvan struck for goal with 12 minutes on the clock. Darragh O’Grady and Gavin O’Shea both added points for Laune Rangers and Sean Godfrey, corner forward for Kilgarvan kicked a point. Adam Owens and Darragh O’Grady added a further two points for the home side. Adam Carey in goals pulled off a great save to deny Kilgarvan a certain goal. Jimmy Kelleher, Kilgarvan’s full forward added two points but Seanie Diggin finished off a slick Laune Rangers move with a goal to complete the first half scoring

Laune Rangers started the second half brightly adding 7 points in succession – Darragh O’Grady (3), Jack O’Sullivan (2), Gavin O’Shea (1) and Adam Owens (free). Kilgarvan were then awarded a two-point free which they scored, and Sean Godfrey then added another point. Adam Owens and Darragh O’Grady kicked two points for Laune Rangers and the home side continuing to threaten Kilgarvan’s defence worked the ball in and Cillian Foley who had been introduced as a substitute flicked the ball past the Kilgarvan goalkeeper for Laune Rangers second goal to put the home side ahead by 13 points. But Kilgarvan never dropped their heads and Patrick O’Shea who was introduced at half time slotted the ball into the back off Laune Rangers goals. Kilgarvan continued to try and penetrate Laune Rangers defence and in one of those attacks, Sean O’Donnell received a black card which Kilgarvan converted. Kilgarvan’s final score of the game came at 25 mins into second half with the substitute Patrick O’Shea kicking his final point of the afternoon for the visitors. Adam Owens closed out the game for Laune Rangers with 3 points in succession (2 from play and 1 from free).

Overall, it was a very solid performance by the development team with an average age of 22. There is a break next week and the following week (weekending 30th March) the team are away to Lispole.
