Match Report

Laune Rangers and Ballydonoghue play out entertaining draw in Killorglin
Laune Rangers 1-10
Ballydonoghue 0-13
Laune Rangers and Ballydonoghue could not be separated in JP O’Sullivan Park on Sunday afternoon as the sides finished level in Round 2 of the Kerry Petroleum Intermediate Club Championship. In a game that was finely balanced throughout, a second-half penalty by John Tyther looked like it might be decisive, but Ballydonoghue responded well and earned a share of the spoils.
Ballydonoghue settled into the contest quickly, with Brian Mason opening the scoring in the sixth minute before Darragh Sheehy added a free. Laune Rangers responded through Tyther, who hit a point from play and another from a free to level matters. Kerry senior Jason Foley strode forward to kick a fine score for the visitors, only for Darragh O’Grady to equalise immediately.
The sides traded scores for the remainder of the first half. Tyther and O’Grady found the target for Rangers, but Ballydonoghue’s accuracy from frees – with points from Jack Kennelly and Sheehy – ensured the visitors carried a narrow 0-6 to 0-5 lead into the break.
Mason extended that advantage on the restart with his second from play. Rangers passed up a chance to respond when Gearóid Hassett fired wide, but Tyther made amends soon after with another point before striking the game’s turning point. Stephen Sealy was fouled inside the square and, from the resulting penalty, Tyther found the net to give Rangers the lead for the first time.
Ballydonoghue were quick to answer, Kennelly converting a two-point free before Foley added a superb two-point effort from play. The Killorglin side rallied again, with substitute Eoghan Hassett landing a free and both Matthew Leslie and Patrick Carey clipping points from play to edge back in front.
Mason struck a brilliant two-point score in the 61st minute to regain the visitors’ lead, but Eoghan Hassett responded almost immediately with his second of the afternoon to tie the game once more. Neither side could find a winner in the closing stages and the referee’s whistle confirmed a share of the points.
