U16 Boys Blue Team played Finuge in JP O’Sullivan Park on Sunday 24th at 6.30pm in County League Division 2 Shield Final. It was a thrilling encounter and some lovely football played.
Laune Rangers got off to a very strong start leading by 9 points at the 20 minute mark, points coming from Conor Murphy (2), Odhran Foley, Mikey Hynes, Kieran Patton (5, 2pt*2), Darragh McKenna (2f), Finuge keeping in the game by well taken frees from boot of Finuge captain Daithí Laide. Darragh McKenna added another point from play but Finuge responded with another attack, Laune Rangers doing a good job defending saw Finuge take a goal shot but goalie Darragh O’Sullivan saved the shot on goals and Laune Rangers worked the ball forward resulting in Odhran Foley getting a point from play.
Half time: Laune Rangers 0-14, Finuge 0-6.
Mikey Hynes opened the second half with a point from play but Finuge responded with a 2pointer free and point from play. Kieran Patton added another point from play and Finuge got a foothold in the game and added 1-4 without reply but Laune Rangers held their ground, Mikey Hynes & Darragh McKenna converted frees. Hugh O’Sullivan then scored a much needed goal for the home side, Finuge keeping in reaching distance with Daithí Laide having an accurate evening in front of the posts. Liam O’Shea added 3 points from play to see out the game.

Laune Rangers U16 girls played their semi final on Thursday against Milltown/ Castlemaine . The game was played on a sunny Thursday evening in Milltown pitch. Conditions were perfect. Both teams started strong exchanging goals and points. Plenty of scores clocked up with score line favouring Milltown/Castlemaine by 3 points. Half time Milltown/Castlemaine 3-9 (18), Laune Rangers 3-6 (15).
The 2nd half was more defensive and the girls had to work hard for every score. Again evenly contested but a goal from Laune Rangers with a couple of minutes to go put them ahead by a single point. Milltown / Castlemaine needed a point to level; they remained calm and got the equaliser before the full-time whistle.
Full time: Milltown/Castlemaine 4-10(22),Laune Rangers 3-13(22).
Extra time was required – 10 minutes a half. Again both teams were even again at half time of extra time. Laune Rangers started 2nd half strongly . The panel allowed for plenty of subs during the game and the fresh legs saw Rangers score 1-3 without reply. Just when it looked like momentum was with Rangers, Milltown /Castlemaine were awarded a free. They took the opportunity and put it in the back of Rangers goal. Momentum was now with Milltown/Castlemaine and they saw the net for a 2nd time in a few minutes. With the game close to full time of extra time both teams tried for the winning point but they couldn’t be separated.
Full time of extra time descended and it was still a draw after extra time. A replay was expected but both teams were informed a result was needed on the night.
5 brave players from both sides lined up to take a free. Both teams were still level after 5 frees. It was now in sudden death and by the narrowest of margins Laune Rangers got the win . It was a game neither team deserved to lose. Hard luck to Milltown/Castlemaine. Congratulations to Laune Rangers who now have a final to look forward to next week v Ballymacelligott.

U14 Boys: Both teams were playing Ardfert this week, White team at home on Tuesday night and the Blue team away to Ardfert both unlucky to be defeated. The Blue team were also away to St Michaels/Foilmore/Skellig Rangers in Portmagee on Sunday evening and after a tough encounter a draw was secured.
U14 Girls: Both teams commenced their East Kerry League campaigns this week. The White team played MKL B in Cloon on Friday evening, a great team performance from start to finish ensuring victory for the Laune side.
The Blue team play Rathmore on Monday evening (25th Aug) at 7pm in J.P. O’Sullivan Park.
U13 girls commenced their Club League V Corca Dhuibhne on Sunday evening securing victory in a tough game.
U12 Boys: The boys play Milltown/Castlemaine on Thursday evening in Milltown in Mid Kerry Go Games Competition.
U12 Girls are playing Beaufort on Thursday evening in JP O’Sullivan Park at 7pm.
U8 girls travelled to Spa to play in a blitz on Friday evening.
Kerry Development Squads: Congratulations to Laune Rangers players who lined out with their respective Kerry Development Squads – Donnacha Gleeson & Cian O’Sullivan played with Kerry South U14’s.
Kerry LGFA U13 & U15 PDP Days : Well done to the Laune Rangers contingent who travelled to Mallow on Saturday to participate in the Munster U13 PDP Blitz Day. A great day was had by all who attended.
U15 girls played in the county blitz day on Sunday and again thoroughly enjoyed their day. They are now looking forward to Munster U15 PDP Day on Saturday 30th in Mallow.
