UNDER 14 GIRLS

A fantastic second half comeback saw Laune Rangers defeat Rathmore in the East Kerry League Final, which was played in Páirc Eamonn in Farranfore on Sunday evening.  After misses by both side in the early stages, Rathmore scored a 10th minute goal and followed it up with three points in quick succession to take a six point lead.  Saoirse O’Shea pointed a free to open the Laune Rangers account but it was quickly cancelled out by a point at the other end by Rathmore.  Those would prove to be the only points in the 2nd quarter as both sides missed chances – Laune Rangers hitting the crossbar to deny them a goal late in the half.  Half Time Score:- Laune Rangers 0-1, Rathmore 1-4.  The second half began much like the first half had, with no score for nearly ten minutes until Rathmore struck the net for a goal.  Laune Rangers had introduced Aoibhinn O’Sullivan and Aoibhinn Moloney late in the first half and they provided great impetus to the Laune Rangers half forward line.  Laune Rangers scored points in consecutive plays through Riadh O’Sullivan and Sarah O’Brien, before Rathmore added a point to lead by 2-5 to 0-3 with fifteen minutes to play.  Laune Rangers would prevent Rathmore from scoring any more, with some outstanding defending from all six backs.  Niamh O’Sullivan pointed before Aisling Dwyer netted Laune Rangers’ first goal to halve the deficit and give the Killorglin girls hope.  A pointed free by Saoirse O’Shea and another point by Niamh O’Sullivan left Rangers just two behind, before Laune Rangers struck a second goal through Saoirse O’Shea to complete the comeback and take the lead by a point.  There was ten minutes to play at this point, but the Laune Rangers rear-guard held firm to deny Rathmore time and again.  A late free for Rathmore dropped short and the ball was caught and cleared by Kate Costello.  That proved to be Rathmore’s final chance and Laune Rangers claimed a fantastic win.  Full Time Score:- Laune Rangers 2-6, Rathmore 2-5.  Laune Rangers had leaders throughout the field on the day, including midfield pair Riadh O’Sullivan and captain Saoirse O’Shea as well as Sarah O’Brien who played in nearly every position in the hour!  The stand out performance was that of lynchpin Kate Costello who swept up at centre back and was an assuring presence late on.  Laune Rangers:- Leah Russell, Kiri McGrath, Kate McGeever, Amy Callan, Sarah Patton, Kate Costello, Amie Moriarty, Riadh O’Sullivan (0-1), Saoirse O’Shea (capt, 1-2, 2f), Sally McGillycuddy, Sarah O’Brien (0-1), Aisling Dwyer (1-0), Eimear Murphy, Niamh O’Sullivan (0-2), Ellie Memery.  Subs: Aoibhinn O’Sullivan, Aoibhinn Moloney, Erin Dwyer.

UNDER 13 BOYS

Laune Rangers will contest the Mid Kerry Under 13 A Final as they defeated Beaufort on Friday evening to top the Division 1 group.  Beaufort opened the scoring with an excellent point before Laune Rangers took control and pressed forward on attack with every opportunity.  Callum Robertson levelled the game with a point before Odhran Foley added a couple of frees to give Laune Rangers the lead at the midway point of the first half.  Beaufort pointed a free but Laune Rangers added two more points through Henry Whittleton & Liam O’Shea (free) to lead by three at the break.  Half Time Score:- Beaufort 0-2, Laune Rangers 0-5.  Pointed frees were traded in the early stages of the second half – Hugh O’Sullivan with the Laune Rangers score – before Huge O’Sullivan was denied a goal by a great save by the Beaufort goalkeeper.  With a quarter of the game to play, Laune Rangers still led by 0-6 to 0-3.  Laune Rangers added points through Odhran Foley (free), Mikey Hynes, Hugh O’Sullivan & Donnacha Prendiville – all excellent points – but Beaufort responded with a late goal.  Hugh O’Sullivan pointed a late free to see Laune Rangers through to victory.  Full Time Score:- Beaufort 1-3, Laune Rangers 0-11.  Laune Rangers:- Luke Carey, Noah Eaton, Pat Costello (capt), Fionán O’Connor, Fionn McGillycuddy, Charlie Foley, Cormac Sweeney, Mikey Hynes (0-1), Callum Robertson (0-1), Hugh O’Sullivan (0-3, 2f), Daragh O’Sullivan, Jaego Ferris, Liam O’Shea (0-1), Odhran Foley (0-3f), Jack Buckley.  Subs: Luke McGillicuddy, Conor Murphy, Donnacha Prendiville (0-1), Mikey Dwyer, Henry Whittleton (0-1), Fionnán Quigg.
